50 hubs of dipless – Succeeding with Hubpages .... sometimes

The 50th Hub
I decided to celebrate my 50th Hub it would be a good idea to discuss some of my previous hubs, why I like them what made them a success and what didn't and different forms of success, financial, readers and quality. One day I hope that I can make a hub which fulfils all of those. Miracles do happen as I was reminded by my brothers tee-shirt which said:
“Two's company, threes a fantasy... dreams do come true”
I know this is not quite what I meant but it sells my point, I am learning from each Hub that I do.
Success's and failures are often a matter of personal taste and I will be listing my favourites, please feel free to disagree and let me know why, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter.
Financial Success
I know that a substantial portion of people use Hubpages to make a small amount of money and for some a second income and for a small minority a first income. So I Will first look at Financial Success.
Without a shadow of doubt my most successful hub financially is:
Why Shouldn't Pregnant Women Eat Papaya? - This hub has had over 25,800 views at present count with well over 95% of these coming through organic searches. Easily giving it the top spot for the financial success
Adwords PPC Campaign management – This is my second most successful hub financially, but the unusual thing about this hub is that it hasn't had many page views only just over 500 however it has a very high ctr and a decent cpc which means that it has fallen into second position for financial success
Quantum Physics – Schrodingers Cat - This takes 3rd place financially and lies in middle ground between the above two. It has a moderate ctr and a moderate cpc. However with an ever rising number of organic page views this page will soon overtake the above one.
Now what makes a hub successful financially well it is obviously to do with organic searches and your ranking within the search engines, especially google as this is where the majority of your traffic will come from. You need to rank in the first couple of pages, in order to get any kind of traffic to speak about, the first page with a keyword with a search frequency over about 10,000 per month will ensure good traffic and likely a decent return. If you are unsure about how to chose which key words are good use googles keyword tool in Ad-words to search for number of searches per month and the competition on those words.
Driving Traffic To your hub
Page Views
If you are interested in getting the most amount of people to read your work then you need to focus on making your work unique and appeal to a wide variety of people, evergreen content will ensure you get steady and consistent views, whereas seasonal or specific content will get serious spikes leading upto and during the event. i.e. gift idea hubs at christmas get huge hits. My 3 highest page views are:
Why Shouldn't Pregnant Women Eat Papaya? - We already discussed this but it gets a lot of hits from google and it is an evergreen topic so I get a very steady number of hits per day.
Quantum Physics - Erwin Schrodinger and his equation – This has had almost 7000 page views and again most of this has come from organic searches, this is hub is unusual in that it has peaks and troughs in it's page views, I am unsure as to why although I imagine there may have been a lecture on Schrodinger or his cat. Much like when Brian Cox did his Christmas lecture this year and spoke about the double split experiment, that means that my hub on this has had ever rising traffic.
Film and DVD Review: Goal 3 – This is not far behind with almost 6300 views, it was written just as the film came out and like with most reviews it has ever falling traffic initially it had in excess of 40 views per day on average and now 2 years later has settled on around 4 per day, which is not much but it still brings in some income because many of the people searching now will often to be looking to but it on the cheap.
What have I learnt? Well the most important fact is writing high quality and unique content, next is that people search for it, you can write the best article in the world but if no one ever searches for it, it can not be appreciated. If you are serious about traffic you will need to build back links as well this will help in two ways, firstly through the back link itself and secondly through helping with your organic ranking in the search engines.
Personal Favourites
This is where I will list my three favourites and why.
Quantum Physics – This is the hub which started my quantum physics series and for that reason alone I love it. It has moderate page views, I have been working on back links to this site and building traffic to this hub and other hubs within this series, mainly because I want more and more people to learn about the weird and wonderful world of the quantum. So please if you haven't already check them out.
Quantum Physics – Schrodingers Cat – I chose this as it was a hubnugget winner for June 11 - 17, 2009 http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/15614#post218673 This was great and it meant that I enjoyed lot's of kind comments from many fellow hubbers and a peak in initial traffic. It too has decent traffic and makes a decent amount.
Business Start-up - Definitive guide – This is the first in a series of articles about writing a business plan, focusing on start-up businesses, I am very passionate about start-up companies and love to see people succeed in their endeavours. It hasn't had much traffic but combined with the other articles in the series it has had a very positive response.
Where Next?
I took a long break from Hubpages for one reason and another. Now I am back I have written another few hubs to reach the 50 hub mark, now I want to try and finish my quantum series, I want to finish my business series and finish the nutrition and pregnancy series. I will then most likely move on to hubs about string theory and other recent theories in physics, if you have anything you want to know about just ask.
I want to aim to write 100 more hubs in 2013 and reach the 100k page views by June. I would like to break the 300 followers. To do this I will write a minimum of 2 hubs per week, become a more active member of the Hubpages forum and use the keyword tool and back links to drive more traffic to my hubs

Thank you for sharing your Hub experiences. It's been a frustrating experience for me since only recently have I discovered how to actually make money with hubs. Voting this Up and Useful.

Thank you for a very useful hub. I joined about 11 months ago, but have only been serious about writing for a month. There's a lot to learn. Thanks to hubbers like you, I'm picking it up, bit by bit.
